Connoisseurs appreciate the soft single malts from the distillery, which is one of the few in Scotland that still operates its own malt floors. Balvenie also produces smoky whiskey rather untypical for Scottish Speyside. Balvenie 12 Years Double Wood was first matured in former bourbon casks before being matured in sherry casks.
